INSTRUCTIONAL RATING COURSES

Skydive Puerto Rico offers individual coaching for those new graduates and novices who want to progress in their belly skills in a relaxed, advance, fun and safe way. With good coaching, comes great skills; faster and safer. For the A license you require a minimum of 8-11 coach jumps for you to be a safe skydiver, for you and everyone else.

COACH COURSE

Nature of the course

The course teaches effective methods for training adults to skydive. Candidates learn to apply those methods to a restricted portion of the USPA Integrated Student Program

The non-method specific portions of the skydiving first jump course group freefall skills in categories F-H. Typically it lasts 3 full days

Requirements

  • Current USPA membership

  • B-license

  • Minimum of 100 jumps

  • Coach proficiency card required topics signed off prior to the course

 

The Coach proficiency card is in the back of the USPA Instructional Rating Manual (IRM). You need a current IRM and SIM for the course. (“Current” means your copy of the manuals must not be older than 24 months). The proficiency card serves as your rating application form after you have completed all portions of the USPA Coach Course. Take a look at the proficiency card and you will see that some items need to be signed off prior to the course. Many topics on the card will be signed off during the course by either the coach examiner or by your evaluator.

AFFI COURSE (AFF INSTRUCTOR RATING COURSE)

Requirements for taking the course

  • 18 years or older

  • Current USPA membership

  • Hold a current USPA coach or instructor rating from another discipline (IAD, S.L or USPA Tandem)

  • One year as a USPA Coach or 500 jumps D-License or foreign equivalent

  • Logged and signed six hours of Freefall time

  • USPA AFF proficiency card with required topics signed off prior to the course

  • Bring with you a current (not over 24 months since publication) SIM and IRM. These can be ordered from uspa.org

The proficiency card is in the back of the IRM. This card needs to be signed off in the required areas before the course starts! If you are already an instructor you can skip the topics that are marked with a  “*”.

The first thing you should do if you consider taking the course is look at the proficiency to see what needs to be done prior to the course. It may take some time to complete the signatures on the card. Some topics will get signed during the course by the course director. This is all marked on the card itself and is pretty much self-explanatory.

One of the requirements to complete the Coach Course is taking a written exam and scoring at least 80 percent. The questions for this exam and answer sheet are in the back of the IRM. It is an open book test and forces you to read through the IRM and SIM and is required to be completed prior to the start of the course.
